The Flowery Language Of Bouquets
There are a variety of flower options to consider when planning for your wedding and reception. The traditional roses are no longer a must. Many couples use a combination of their favorite flowers to add a personal flair. Here are some common types of bouquets: 1. Hand Wrapped-- This style is a bundle of flowers with long stems. The stems are generally wrapped in ribbon and are carried by the stem. These flowers are either bent to create a round shape or left straight for the "fresh picked" look. 2. Cascade-- This style is generally attached to a plastic stem. The flowers start full and flow downward, becoming less full. 3. Presentation Bouquet-- This type of bouquet would be cradled in one's arm. It's much like flowers a beauty queen would receive.
Xistra, Rich marry at Heavenly
South Lake Tahoe residents Aimi Xistra and Dan Rich were wed in a 2 p.m. double-ring ceremony Dec. 11 at the top of the tram at Heavenly Mountain Resort. The simple ceremony was performed by the Rev. Melodie Swanson as the couple exchanged heartfelt vows in front of a dozen of their close friends. The bride wore a white snowboard jacket and carried a red and white rose bouquet with fir tree accents and ribbons. What seemed to be a dismal day at the mountain turned into a beautiful afternoon as the clouds broke and the sun came out just in time for the nuptials. Following the ceremony the wedding group gathered for celebratory champagne and photographs before spending the afternoon shredding the slopes. Aimi and Rich, who are both prominent snowboarders, chose Heavenly because that is where they met and fell in love.
Special gifts abound for Valentine's Day
Fort Scott, Kan. -- For those people who want to stray from tradition and purchase something unique for that special someone on Valentine's Day this year, the options are numerous. A unique and unusual gift available at Sekan Occasions Shops, south U.S. Highway 69 in Fort Scott, are bags of rose petals that can be purchased for $5, store owner Lonnie Banwart said. The petals can be tossed on a table or bed as a romantic decoration for that special person in someone's life, and they are also popularly thrown at weddings, Banwart said. That significant other should be most pleased with the romantic gift combination of a box of rose petals and another traditional Valentine's Day gift of that person's choice, such as a scented candle, Banwart said. While off-the-wall gifts are available at his store, traditional Valentine's day items -- such as the typical box of chocolates and a bouquet of roses -- remain the store's biggest seller, Banwart said.
