Marketplace: Galt candy shop makes a splash with wine fudge

Last April, a Galt candy store went a little more than gourmet. It went oenophile.

Merrilyn Wilmoth, owner of Charm N Candy Bouquet, was tired of waiting for her orders of pre-made fudge to come in, so she started making her own.

The word spread that it was good.

Canyon Country Wrap-Up

Students at Meadows Elementary School were joined by U. S. Rep. Howard "Buck" McKeon on Friday to celebrate national Read Across America Day festivities - in honor of the late childrens author Dr. Seuss' birthday.

While all Meadows students participated in the day's reading-themed activities - which included a storytelling assembly, a collection of Dr. Seuss style hat-wearing teachers, and several classroom guest readers - teacher Nancy Butler's kindergarten class received a chapter in patriotism when McKeon arrived for story time.

Sponsored by the National Education Association and Dr. Seuss Enterprises, Read Across America Day events are designed to both encourage and promote reading among students. This year's events - which annually coincide with the late author's birthday - also celebrated the 50th anniversary of the "Cat in the Hat" character.
